As Riverside County surpassed the 20,000 total coronavirus cases milestone in July, there were still countless Californians sitting in custody who could be at risk of contracting the COVID-19 virus.
According to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, there are roughly 2,300 active virus cases within the prison system, populated by about 113,000 inmates.

Riverside County could parole as many as 500 inmates currently in custody throughout Riverside County’s corrections facilities including: Cois M. Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta, John J. Benoit Detention Center in Indio, Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning, Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside, and Blythe Jail.
According to Department of Probation figures, the highest number of Post Release Community Supervision parolees are going into the cities of Hemet and Riverside.
